How can I be best prepared for the physical requirements of a 3rd Rock Adventures tour?

Each destination’s sightseeing and activities are unique. Pacing is often subject to personal interpretation; however, at 3rd Rock Adventures, we do include the best a destination has to offer, enhancing your overall tour experience. Some of the most unique sightseeing can mean accessing locations that restrict motorcoaches, especially in historic areas. We recommend packing walking shoes so you can fully – and comfortably – enjoy every aspect of your vacation. When/where will I meet my tour director?

In most cases, your tour director will meet you at the departure gate in the United States. There will be times, however, when the tour director will need to fly over a few days early, at which point they will meet you at the arrival airport with the transfer driver. The hotel address and phone number will be included in your documents should you have any trouble with connecting flights or other things.

Do I need a passport?

A valid passport is required for all international travel, regardless of citizenship. We strongly recommend that you have a valid passport with six month validity for all international travel. You are strongly urged to contact the appropriate consulate for additional details.

Do you rotate seats on buses?

Seats are rotated on board the coach for all 3rd Rock Adventure tours under the direction of the tour director. So that we do not show partiality among passengers, exceptions cannot be made.

Can you find me a roommate?

With each trip there is a very limited number of single rooms (with a single supplement cost). Once those are gone you will pay significantly more to be in a room alone. We will do our very best to match you up with a suitable roommate. We have had great success with this in the past, and many tremendous friendships have been forged from just these circumstances.

What is not included in the trip price?

Land only Price does not include air travel, airline fees, airport or departure taxes, or transfers between airports and the hotel

What is the difference between a twin room and a double room?

A double room is designed to accommodate two people, but may not have two separate beds. A twin bedded room has two separate beds of any size, and is the type most commonly utilized.

 

*** 3rd Rock Adventures covers all basic, minimal gratuities. We encourage our travelers to think about the service they have received above the bare minimum and tip accordingly. This will be discussed with you by your 3rd Rock tour leader.

Are airport and hotel transfers provided?

Roundtrip airport-to-hotel transfers are provided FREE for all passengers (with one checked and one carry-on bag) who purchase airfare through 3rd Rock Adventures. These transfers are available on the first and last day of the tour and do not apply to pre and post night stays.

Can 3rd Rock Adventures book my airline reservations?

We are happy to assist you in accommodating your flight needs. Due to tour scheduling and limited availability, you are strongly encouraged to take advantage of 3rd Rock’s air packages when included as part of a trip. We will not be responsible for air arrangements you have made on your own. On occasion, it becomes necessary to change tour dates. In these cases, we can only protect air reservations booked through 3rd Rock Adventures.

Some tour prices include roundtrip air from various gateways, and land-only prices are usually available as well.

When we do book your flights, group air will be arranged and available from the most convenient and economical location. We can work with you to book air from you home to our departure location but believe that you will find more economical flights by booking those yourself.

For all air reservations, it is strongly recommended you reconfirm flights before departure, in the event that the airline has an unexpected schedule change. We cannot assume responsibility for schedule changes, routings or flight cancellations involving the airlines.

Can I extend my tour to see more of an area?

Absolutely! You may enhance your tour with an extension offered on select tours or by purchasing pre/post hotel stays.

3rd Rock Sponsored Extensions may be “hosted” rather than escorted. When hosted, passengers will be greeted upon arrival by a local tour manager who will provide all included services, and be available on-call during the duration of the extension. A minimum number of passengers may be required to operate some extensions. Extensions not purchased at time of deposit are subject to availability and applicable charges at the time of request. 3rd Rock Adventures also offers pre and post hotel nights before and/or after a tour for you to explore the destination independently. Should you purchase additional nights, please be advised that your tour director will not be available during this time. You must let us know at the time of booking that you would like these extra nights. It will affect your flights as well.

Would my tour date ever be changed?

3rd Rock Adventures reserves the right to cancel any tour prior to departure for any reason. (Although to date we have NEVER done this.) Should this happen, 3rd Rock Adventures will make every effort to protect you on another departure date, and if an alternate cannot be found, a full refund will be made.

If you need to change your reservation for any reason after initial booking, we will charge a handling fee of $50 per alteration (including name changes).

Air booked through 3rd Rock Adventures will be protected. We cannot be held responsible for other air arrangements. Revisions to air tickets are subject to the rules and regulations of the airline and fare type purchased; rates vary.

Do you accept late bookings?

Tour sales normally close 20 days prior to departure. All late bookings are on request and must be paid in full with a credit card at time of booking. As this is within 20 days of travel, all bookings will immediately be 100% non-refundable. A late booking fee of $100.00 may be assessed to cover express mailing of documents and other expenses incurred.

If there is a waitlist, how does it work?

How it works

One of the special things about 3rd Rock Adventures is the smaller size of our groups, as such, our trips tend to sell out early, so we encourage you to book early to avoid being placed on a wait list. When a trip fills up a wait list will be created for the existing trip and dates. We do Occasionally have cancellations and if you are on the wait list you would be one of the first notified of this opening. When there is a cancellation, each person on the wait list will be contacted by phone and email in the order of which they are on the wait list. The first person to confirm and book the trip will get the spot.

If enough people are on the wait list we may propose an additional trip with slightly different dates (generally within a week or two of the original trip). These proposed new trips will be noted on the website. When we have 12 people on the wait list the proposed new trip will officially be offered.

You will sign up only once for the wait list but will be placed on both the original and the proposed trip, this will entitle you to the wait list for any cancellations for that trip and to be notified when a proposed second trip is officially offered ( and before it is open to the general public).

If you are only interested in a cancellation or only interested in the proposed new trip date, simply let us know that in the notes on check out and and we will make a note of it. We do this for many people who are very specific about availability of dates.

How you can save (or $30 will get you $75)

It will cost you $30 to join the wait list.

When you take a spot made by a cancellation or you book a spot on the newly created trip, $75 will be credited towards your trip. If there are no cancellations and a second trip does not materialize your $30 will be returned to you.

You may call or email us at 3rd Rock Adventures at any time prior to the trip date and ask to be removed from the wait list and your $30 will be returned to you.

If you are notified about a cancellation on the original trip and you choose at that point not to book the trip you will forfeit the $30.

When the new trip does materialize however and if you choose not to book at that time you will forfeit the $30.

If a trip is sold-out, you will be given the option of joining the waitlist for this trip or for a proposed date for a second trip. Our adventures fill up quickly, so book early!

Every trip requires a $500 deposit to secure your space, and 50% paid at 150 days prior to departure. Final payment is due no later than 90 days prior to departure.
